ONE WORD 2014 // MICAELA

I've had the pleasure of knowing Micaela for a number of years. She's pretty much the most enthusiastic/encouraging person I know. She was one of my city youth girls but (sadly for us but happy for the mainland) moved to Surrey with her family. Her heart for the Lord and his church is so incredible and I truly believe she's a world changer! Take it away Micaela….!

Hey, I’m Micaela, one of Laura’s past yet present youth girls (but I’ll get to that later). It was over two years ago when I first heard about the one word idea from Laura on her blog and it changed my thinking about new years resolutions. Since then, I've seen incredible things happen in her life every year she's done it and when the new year came, I decided to join in.

My one word came to me while reading her 2013 one word recap, more specifically, when she encouraged others to join. The month before, my one word kept popping up in my life and while reading her blog post, it came back. That word was STILL. A couple seconds later, a verse popped up into my head as well.

“Be still, and know that I am God!

I will be honored by every nation.

I will be honored throughout the world.”

Psalms 46:10 NLT

This past September I moved over to the mainland with my family and it has been a huge change for me. From an island kid’s perspective, I learned very quickly that everything over here is go go go and I’ve gotten overwhelmed multiple times by all that and attempting to get through it myself. It’s hard to be still when you’re doing everything in your strength alone and can barely catch your breath, but this year I'm focusing on that.

During the past few months, God has already done a bunch of things with my one word, including- letting go of the pain from something in my past that has been impacting my life for over 5 and a half years. He’s shown me the true meaning behind STILL and how it applies to my life. 2014 has been a crazy adventure and I can’t wait to see what God will do with my one word throughout the rest of this year.

Also, huge thank you to Laura for letting my story be included with all the other amazing one word stories and for constantly sticking by my side during this whole process. I’m so honored to have the chance to call you my leader and friend.

Thank you so much for sharing your one word with us Micaela, I love ya so much and miss you but I know Surrey is lucky to have you, xo!!

Check out the other one word entries ---> Amy | Nadia | Sarah | Tiffany | Danae | Laura

How amazing have these one words been? I know I've said it before but I'm going to say it again, it's so incredible to see God uniquely speaking to his daughters. He sure loves us and knows just what we need. :)

THAI PEANUT CHICKEN RICE BOWL

Thai Peanut Chicken Rice Bowl // ssheart.com

Before I got married, I knew how to make one meal...scrambled eggs on toast (and cupcakes!) Yes, I don't know how I survived (thank you to my wonderful sister, Catrina who cooked many, many, meals for me). I lived a very full and social life as a single gal and didn't value meal times. Dinner to me was sometimes crackers and peanut butter or whatever I could grab on the go.

But now (on good weeks) dinners are strategically thought out and planned. My full and social calendar hasn't changed much since I got married so I'm particularly attracted to meals that I can cook in little time.

And these Thai Peanut Chicken Rice Bowls fit exactly into that category. They are seriously soooo delicious and take hardly any time to make (the rice take the longest!) We eat these almost weekly in our home (and James never complains!)

EYEBROW TUTORIAL

So yesterday I shared my favourite brow tools and today I'll show you how to use them!

Here I am with full makeup except for brows...

Like I said yesterday, filling in your brows can really define your makeup aka filled brows add oomph. But watch out for too much oomph because no one wants painted on eye brows.

EYEBROW TUTORIAL-

(Grab your tools!!)

1. Use a pair of brow scissors to trim any long brow hairs (but don't over cut because it can get addicting!!)

2. Brush your brows in place.

3. Fill in your brows with Mac Brun eyeshadow.

If I'm in a hurry, I finish at this point but if you want a more dramatic look then simply do step 4 before step 3.

4. Carefully outline your brow then follow with step 3.

See what a difference it makes? If you haven't tried filling in your brows, I double doggy dare you to try it out!!

If you have any questions on what works best for your brows, ask away in the comments!

TOOLS FOR BROWS

Eyebrows have power you know. Power to make or break a person. JK JK. Ok, they don't have that much power but they do have a little power to really add definition to your make up.

I am half italian. That being said, I have dark thick hair aka I was born with thick eyebrow YET in my early teens I tweezed the junk out of them and sadly they have never been the same. But thank God for make up that can fix my teenage mistake (insert praise hands emoticon).

So I have a brow tutorial for you but before that let's talk brow tools...

TOOLS FOR BROWS // S.S. Heart

I like to joke with James that Home Depot is to him as Sephora is to me. It's my playground, my happy place and where I get (a lot of) my tools.

So that being said, here are my favourite brow tools.

1. Forever 21 Tweezers- Any tweezers will do but just make sure you get some sharp ones. These were a gift and they're actually pretty sharp AND they have a kitten on them.  The best.

2. Mac Brow Pencil in Spiked- This is my third of this product so clearly I love it!

3. Forever 21 Compact Mirror- Not necessary but cute and allows you to fix your brows on the go.

4. Brow Brush- This one is a freebie I got years ago and it still is great! (I've linked a bigger, classier one which I hope to upgrade to one day).

5. Sephora Brow Scissors- These are used to trim any long brow hairs. I just got these a month ago and I love them.

6. Mac Brush #266- This flat angle brush is used to apply powder on your brow.

7. Mac Brun Eyeshadow- Even though this is an eyeshadow, it works like a charm on your brows AND it's a pretty universal shade aka it works for most people. Oh, and you can use it for a contour shadow on your eyes too!

So there are my favourite tools! A lot of people use a brow gel as well to help keep your brows in place but I have never used one as my brows usually sit right in place.

Tomorrow I'll be back with how to put these tools to work!

Happy Monday!
