WINTER FITNESS

WINTERRUN.jpg

Winter + fitness usually don't end up in the same sentence for me. I haaaaate being cold. Absolutely, stinking hate it. I grew up being forced to play soccer (as probably all Italian-Canadian children do) from the age of 5 until 13. I switched to baseball as soon as I could. Running around at night and playing games in ice rain didn't really appeal to 13 year old me.

I picked up running about 7 years ago. There have been times I've been hard core at it and also times where I've been extremely lazy about it. Spring and fall are when I'm usually on my game. In the summer, I'm usually too hot to really push running (did I mention I don't like being too hot either? Diva, I know) and winter, well in winter I like to hibernate and eat.

This past year has been a bit different though. After coming back from India in late August, I realized I needed to make a change. I had had an emotional year (hello first year being married!) where I partook in much emotional eating and not enough exercising resulting in me gaining weight. I decided right then, that I was going to make some changes. I started running again and watching what I was eating and in a couple months I had lost 10lbs. Winter came and I pushed through. I'm so thankful we live in a city where it doesn't snow (except for the picture above, where I realized that running in -10 is the absolute worst idea ever). I admit, when it's pissing rain outside the last thing I want to do is run but to counteract my laziness, James and I got Y gym passes.

It's been a dream of mine to run a half marathon and I'm going to do it in May at the Oak Bay Half! With this goal in mind, I know I can't afford to not run this winter. I have no excuses. So I'm vowing to keep up fitness through these winter months! Who is with me?

stay gold (not cold),

COACHELLA 2014

coachella.jpg

The 2014 Coachella line-up was announced yesterday. I'm head over heels in love with the headliners. I can just imagine the dance party during Outkast, HEEEEEYAAAAAAAA-HEEEEYAAAAAAA. I've seen Muse and they're awesome live. Don't even get me started on my favourite band, Arcade Fire. I saw them front row at Pacific Colosseum in 2010  and again at Coachella in 2011, where they ended Saturday night with an incredible set.

Can't say I'm as stoked on the "smaller" bands as I was last year. We did see Chromeo in 2011 and they were the bomb (honestly, the greatest dance party I've ever been in!!!), so they'll be awesome. I'd also love to see Ellie Goulding, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Kate Nash & Sleigh Bells.

Even though this year's headliners are insane, it doesn't look like we'll be rocking Coachella this year (mainly because we're hopefully going to EURRRROPPPEEE!!!!)

Here are a few pics from last year's...

oh the beautiful coachella valley. mountains and palm trees everywhere.

YOU'VE BEEN GOOD TO US 2013

Oh, hey there 2013, you've been good to us.

I still am marvelling over the fact that it is new. years. eve…. weren't we just here last week?

2013 brought me many beautiful adventures. I can't help but smile when I look back and reflect on what I was able to experience. The year wasn't always smiles, there were hard, ugly times but again I will hold to the truth that God is faithful.

Here are just a few of my favourite moments of 2013...

In April James and I went on a road trip to California. Our stops were Portland, Redding (Bethel), San Francisco, LA, COACHELLA, Salvation Mountain, San Diego, and Disneyland (of course)

The trip was absolutely incredible, my favourite moments from it had to have been front row at Beach House at Coachella (it was particularly special because Beach House was the first band that James and I ever bonded over), stopping in at Bethel for a church service, exploring Salvation Mountain (soooo magical), listening to "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis on our 16 hour drive day and Disneyland (of course!!)

In July James surprised me with a teensy, 7 week black fur ball. He was a born cat-hater but was converted into a cat-lover after a couple hours with that little black fur ball. At first we thought the kitten was a he so I named him Richard Parker but after some googling, we figured out he was indeed a girl!! I named her Coco and she has been such a little joy to me (aside from the random biting and scratching and litter box emptying..)

In August James and I had the privilege of going to India with a group of awesome people from Adore. It was life changing. Getting there was a miracle. We had A LOT of money to raise and God provided every last penny. THANK YOU so much to all of you who gave and prayed and supported us!! I still can't believe we went to INDIA. The trip was very challenging in a lot of ways but man, did I ever see God move. It was such an honour to serve at Living God Church. A few of my favourite moments were seeing 300 youth show up at a youth conference (and witnessing a ton of those surrendering their lives to Jesus!!), having the honour of speaking to teen girls, meeting the incredible interns who taught me what true service means and seeing James do what he does so well- leading worship and training up worship leaders. It was such a blessing to be able to serve alongside James. I'll never forget you Chennai. (You can read more about our trip on our joint blog)

Another one of my highlights was seeing James pursue his dreams and launch LIIRA.  He poured out his heart and soul and worked his butt off! I know I'm biased but check out my man's website and buy the single on itunes!! Can't wait to see what God has in store for LIIRA in 2014. Proud of you babe. xo

A few other highlights included seeing my sister marry the man of her dreams in June, seeing my sister-in-law marry hers in September, Illumiante (obviously!!!) and seeing God move in mighty ways at our church!!

May you have the best NYE and embrace 2014 with anticipation. Praying for your best year yet :)

TOFINO

james and i snuck away to tofino the weekend after adore conference. it was my first time to tofino (i know!!) you’d think after living on this island for 26 years, i would have experienced this gem of a place but noooooope.

on the drive up we started listening to the final instalment of the chronicles of narnia. those audiobooks have been incredible and saved us on viciously long drives on our californian road trip last april. the drive up was stunning and not as windy as i thought it would be (praise the Lord!!)

we stayed at middle beach lodge and absolutely loved it. it’s incredibly rustic and right on the beach. the room was super basic but they had a lovely great room with couches and a roaring fire. oh and my favourite part? they served fresh baked cookies every night! i highly recommend the place.

we ate at shelter on our first night. such great atmosphere and amazing food (thanks for the recommendation evan!) on our second day we ate a late lunch at tacofino(mmmmmm soooo goood.)

we fortunately found great coffee at tofino coffee co. we caught them just before they closed on saturday and it was so good that we returned the next morning before the big drive home.

it was such a relaxing weekend and just what i needed after working super hard leading up to conference.

enjoy the pics! sorry in advance for the photo dump but tofino is just too beautiful not to share.

DECEMBERRRRRR!

today i opened my advent calendar which means it is officially december and Christmas is coming…boooyah! decembrrrrr weather has definitely arrived. i made that observation as i ran along dallas road this morning. insane winds + razor sharp rain slashing at my face = not the best conditions…

i’m yet to decorate my house, but we’re getting our tree on friday…yay to real trees!

i’m officially going to two cookie exchanges.

our church is so pretty at Christmas time. trees and lights for the win. and our carols series started tonight…(watch last year’s videos here!)

hope you had a marvellous december 1st.

until next time,
