THAT TIME WE WERE 10 FEET AWAY FROM RYAN GOSLING

it’s fall. i love it. i love it. i love it.

i love leaves.

i love mist.

i love scarves.

i love pumpkin anything.

i love grey skies. i love it all.

oh, and i love halloween.

around halloween i get the urge to watch hocus pocus (best halloween movie) and eat lots of candy corn.

i also get the urge to listen to halloween music. this really isn’t halloween music but it really is halloween music. it’s not labelled as a typical halloween song but it’s spooky and talks about your body being a zombie.

have a listen…

My Body’s A Zombie For You by Dead Man’s Bones on Grooveshark

spooktacular hey? and believe it or not, one of the voices singing is the ryan gosling. yeah, THE RYAN GOSLING.

so if you were a single girl circa 2009 and your bestie lived in vancouver you’d totally pay money to see a really, really crappy band just because ryan gosling was in it?

riiiiggght?

here’s how it went down…

inside our heads- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!noah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!it’s him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

outward appearance- oh sweet, i love this band, yep, total fan.

one of my friends, who shall not be named, went extremely kinda ballistic . it was really cute.

inside our heads- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!omgeee!!!!!he’s totally looking at me!!!!!!!!!!!

outward appearance- ohh, i love this song, it’s my fave. (doesn’t know any lyrics)

inside our heads- !!!! i’m so jealous that those stupid 13 year old get to stand so close to my future husband!!!!!

outward appearance- how artsy and unique of them, to use a children’s choir

happy wednesday!

xoxo,

s.s.♥.

DIARY // SALTSPRING

this past weekend james + i had the pleasure of adventuring to saltspring island. i had gone to saltspring as a young girl for soccer games but that was it. we didn’t get to see a ton of it, but what we did see was awesome. as i said on friday, we left for saltspring to stay the weekend at a friend’s cabin.

the cabin was sooo cute. rustic-chic. all wooden with a wood stove + a loft bedroom. it was a dream..and the view..oh the view…talking about it won’t do it justice.

that picture definitely doesn’t do it justice. it was magical. so very magical. we had a delightful weekend of feasting (my goodness we ate a lot of food!), playing many, many rounds of boggle, exploring around the island (loved the hippie market), listening to chronicles of narnia (bbc did an incredible recording of all the books, i highly recommend listening to them!) + resting.

rest was exactly what we needed and it has fuelled me for the week ahead. i’m very excited to practice sabbath living weekly.

so funny about this picture above… that morning james prayed that we would see crazy wildlife. we pulled over at this stop because of the cute historic buildings and then all of a sudden all these turkeys waddled towards james. they ventured right up to him, it was so crazy!

saturday afternoon we went into ganges and discovered that ice cream was on sale…i’m a girl who loves the sales, so i couldn’t resist! we caught the last day the shop was open! the owner closes up shop for the winter months and heads down to palm springs..what a life. ice cream was $1 (ridiculously tiny scoops though) and all candy was 50% off. ice cream + pop rocks..why not? deliciousness.

we also drank a lot of coffee. overall it was incredible.

hope your weekend was just as fabulous.

tonight we’re celebrating james’ parents 25th wedding anniversary. so incredible! + then i’ll be making butternut squash soup…i’ll let you know how it goes.

xoxo,

DIARY // SIGNING OFF

our conference speaker, joyce rees (who was absolutely incredible) spoke on sabbath living at our women’s breakfast on sunday.

sabbath. rest. i really wish i had my notes in front of me so i could reference them. but what i can remember is sabbath is for resting. sabbath is supposed to be good and fun, anything but work. sabbath is like a holiday (holy day) not a vacation (vacating somewhere). sabbath is a gift not a curse. sabbath can include feasting, ceasing, resting, + rejuvenation. now doesn’t this sound good?

she encouraged us to practice sabbath for a full 24 hour period. she also gave some suggestions for sabbath…enjoy God’s creation (going for nature walks), spending time with God but also spending time with your spouse/family/friends, eating good food, listening to stories, reading, etc …she said sabbath should be a day of NO OBLIGATIONS. that stuck with me.

so james + i are off to saltspring for a sabbatical weekend. we’re very excited to have no obligations, to turn off our phones + have no distractions or demands that would be sucking our attention.

i’m excited to rest in God, to dream, to get lost on an island where i don’t know a soul, to light a fire + cuddle up with my love. ohhhh, it’s going to be fun.

so in a few hours i’ll be signing off. the phone will be turned off + i will be unreachable. yipppeeee.

xoxo,

s.s.♥.

DIY: CAKE TOPPERS

hey future brides, pinterest people, crafters, etc.

i’m going to start showing you some DIYs from my wedding! we were able to save a BUNCH of $$ doing a heck of a lot of DIY. if you plan on doing a lot of DIY for your wedding that is AWESOME! my only advice is, don’t do it if you’re not an organized person! if you aren’t..get a wedding planner. your bridesmaids + friends will be thankful.

anyways…so the first one i’d like to show you is…

i knew for a long time that i wanted birdies for cake toppers. i didn’t make the cake toppers until a couple days before the wedding. (i know!)  i had a lot of projects on the go that i actually forgot about them. thankfully, it was a super easy project (+ cheap!)

supplies needed: two birds (i found mine from michaels, i believe they were about $5 for both), spray paint (i used gold because it was an accent colour, mine was from walmart), tiny pearl necklace (i used an old pear headband from h&m), fabric for bow + veil, glue gun.

1. spray paint bird desired colour. most birds come multi-colour. if you want to leave them those ugly colours then do so. i picked gold because we spray painted a lot of other things gold. leave them to dry for a few hours.

2. cut out veil + bow tie + glue gun on.

3. glue on pearls

4. doneskies!

total cost of project- less than $10 !

yep, i told you it was easy. and i think they looked pretty cute. we have them sitting above our bedroom door frame.

how cute was our cake + cupcakes? cake was made by Rachel Cakes + cupcakes were from Jennie Cakes + they tasted PHENOMENAL!

over n out,

s.s.♥.
