KNOW

Some people have it written all over them. No, not it, Him. Some people have Him written all over them. You know them when you see them. Sometimes you see Him right away. In the way they smile, the way their eyes sparkle when they look at you. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to spot Him. They’re shy at first and then He’s revealed through words as they speak from the depths of their hearts. You see a passion lit and they’re giddy like a five year old trying to hold in a secret. Like a five year old they just can’t hold it in. They shout it from the rooftops. Sometimes screaming, sometimes in quiet whispers but never holding it in, no never holding it in. No person is ever the same except one quality, they are madly in love with Jesus and they know him. (ok, I lied, there are two facts there.) They KNOW Jesus. They walk with him, talk with him and their lives reflect Him.

I wrote awhile back about the band Leeland here. Well Leeland was one of these people. Right from the second he was on stage I could spot Him all over. Joy burst out with every lyric sung and fervent passion revealed with every word spoken.  You could just tell that he had been with Jesus.

I heard a story once (I’m no bible scholar. Please forgive me if I’m totally wrong about this.) that back in the day like waaaaay back… just after Jesus had ascended to Heaven, the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and were going out and spreading the gospel like wild fire. People were joining their movement and it was becoming large! The Jews were noticing and they needed a name to identify the people who belonged to this movement. The best name they could come up with for these people were, Christians which literally meant mini Jesus’ because they walked like Jesus, talked like Jesus and reminded them of Jesus.

These people had Jesus written all over them. They knew Jesus. They reflected Jesus. Sometimes I find myself getting caught up in so many other things and striving to be a great woman of prayer, someone who knows the Bible, a good servant, etc but what’s important is KNOWING Christ. All these other things will fall into place because once you start knowing Jesus you can’t help but acting like him.

Here’s what Paul says in Philippians 3:7-11

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. 10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!

Infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus…that is what counts. Reflect him.

Oh, Lord, I want to know you.
